i’m considering a new camera...
One thing to know about me is that I'm one of those people that researches something to death. it's kind of obnoxious really. days can go into months before i decide on something. lately i've been thinking about getting a new camera.
currently i have two systems, nikon and fuji. i don’t know how common it is to shoot with 2 different systems. i didn’t use to. i have been shooting with nikon since i went digital. yes, i’m old enough to have started my journey on a lovely minolta film camera. anyway, it’s always been nikon. when i went mirrorless, i jumped on the fuji bandwagon mostly because of the design of the camera. i love the old school look of the x-t3 and 5. nikon introduced their z-fc body but when i started my research, the fuji won out on capabilities.
i love my fujifilm x-t5 for street photography. it's little, it's fast, it's stylish, and it's a lot of fun to shoot with. i first bought a used x-t3 from keh and then upgraded to a new x-t5 when it came out. i have to say i still love the click of the x-t3 better so i wont’ ever sell it. it remnds me of my old film cameras.
over the years i’ve collected a pretty large inventory of nikon bodies and lenses. my workhorse now is the d-850. i saved up for that camera and i love it. it never lets me down so it may seem odd when i say i’m thinking about changing now to the sony system. it’s mostly a weight issue. the weight of the d-850 and my 105 macro for instance gets very heavy as the day goes on. my back and arthritic hand struggles after a day of shooting with it. but then i look at my shots and ask myself why i’m thinking of changing.
I like the sony A7r v for a number of reasons, primarily weight, autofocus, lens options and the flexible flip tilt image display. i can’t get down as low to the ground as i used to so need that screen flexibility. youtube is my friend in research as so many people to comparisons of various manufacturers. anyway, will keep you posted on what i decide. nikon has been my constant for alm 20 years and they’re doing great things this year. i just think for my needs, it’s time for a change.
